06 Jul The Real Story of Building Brewtal
In this blog Brewtal Founder Amit Kasliwal narrates the story of why and how he built Brewtal.
Why chai?
Eight years ago, I traded a stable, well-paying job for a mission: to fix what I call ‘the Shortcut Chai problem’ in Indian workplaces. Drinking tea bag chai during my office breaks left me in a rather foul mood, which seeped into my work. I took it upon myself to find alternatives and recommend them to my company’s admin manager.
During my research, I came across ‘filter chai’ (chai made like filter coffee – far from ideal) or milk powder-tea-sugar pre-mixes. In a nutshell, every office Chai available used shortcuts. This got me wondering: in a country that runs on chai, why hasn’t anyone invented a brewer that makes boiled, kadak chai? We have sophisticated machines for coffee, but why none for chai? It puzzled me.
I further discovered many had tried and failed at this. The chai lover in me felt disheartened, but the engineer in me was thrilled to be the first one to crack it. How hard could it be to pour, boil, strain, dispense and discard? It couldn’t be rocket science.
Even if it was, my degrees in aerospace engineering could help. After a humbling journey over 8 years, 43 prototypes, repeated market trials, and surviving the biggest environmental uncertainty (Yes, we all remember Covid, don’t we), we have successfully created an automated brewer, the Brewtal Chai Maker.

Customer love
It’s heartening to have received the customer validation from Plum Insurance, Jupiter, Curefoods, Mobileum, DTDC and many more. Here are a few reviews of our chai, from the good folks at Zynga.
The future
We are steadfast in our mission to serve every employee-centric company, starting with Bangalore. Every delighted consumer reaction I see for our chai, reaffirms my decision to leave my job to solve this problem.
I believe most problems related to work can be solved with a little common sense, over a great cup of chai. We’ve got the latter covered 🙂
